After climbing Mount Logan, Christian Otto organized the Mount McKinley Research
expedition while still a fourth year medical student.
The McKinley expedition team on the tarmac in Talkeetna, Alaska. Selecting a team
of fit climbers from Canada and the US, the climbing/research team tackled North
America’s highest mountain at 6193m.

Ottawa Heart Institute, the research team examined the effects of high altitude
on the brain’s control of the heart, how high altitude affects sleep, the effects
of low oxygen on muscle physiology, and the transmission of medical data from remote
environments. The entire seven person expedition team summitted Mount McKinley,
and collected valuable research data.
