First full day in Nepal.
We are enjoying the beautiful weather here, 20 degrees, sunshine, green leaves,
flowers, all a nice respite from the 16 feet of snow in Ottawa.
We have been busy getting gear unpacked and sorted to be repacked. We met with the
rest of the expedition team and discussed the current situation in Tibet and how
that’s effecting climbing on the South side of Everest.

Group Meeting
Our climbing permit has
still not been issued but we are hopeful, and all indications are that
it will be
forthcoming. The SSPC has left for the Khumbu ice fall above base camp to set the
route through the treacherous zone. Already an advanced party from our team has
headed to Everest base camp to start preparing our camp.
We will find out Monday about our permit.
We were running around Kathmandu today picking up last minute items, and meeting
our team members, and explaining our research.

Kathmandu Street Scene
And we even found time to take our
first team photo by the pool at the Annapurna hotel.
Look forward to posting more, but we have to run now… a few more things to finish.
Bye for now,
Christian Otto
